Fabulous Fourth Grade's..." Homework...Don't Leave School Without It!"

Fri. January 14 – Thursday January 20, 2011
4th Grade Homework Sheet
Dear Students and Parents,
Please remember there is no school on Monday in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Therefore, please note the three days worth of homework assignments. Students should complete one vocabulary and one spelling assignment each day. Refer to the schedule and please have homework folders organized by Thursday.
The students will do a great job with “El Camino Real” when they also turn in their Mission projects on Thursday, January 20, 2011. Students will answer many questions and the OLA greater school community can attend from 1:45-2:15pm in the fourth grade classroom! Please remember to bring your corrected mission report with you so you can each answer intelligent questions about your mission. Thank you for supporting active learning!
We will begin reading Trumpet of the Swans on Monday, January 31, 2011. Each student needs a copy of the book for class. Please check the school library or local libraries for a copy of the book if you do not want to purchase it. The students will work on reading comprehension skills while reading this story and practice their writing skills.
Student grades can also be checked by visiting www.gradelink.com regularly. Please remember the Jog-A-Thon is on Friday, January 21,2011 and bring your signed pledge sheet to class then so you can raise lots of money for your 2nd trimester assessment fees. Students have free dress that day so they can wear athletic clothes and shoes to be comfortable and “run like the wind”! Thank you for your participation!!
Also, please check the homework folders for any tests in which students have scored below 75%. Students may make corrections on a separate sheet of paper for tests only. Since we are in the middle of 2nd trimester many students need to re-stock their supplies for the classroom: glue sticks, sharpened pencils, erasers, paper, etc.
Finally, students have started to learn about electricity in Science. Please ask your student how electricity is important to their everyday life and remind them why it is important to conserve it whenever possible. Over the next few weeks we will continue to focus on the following CA state standards:
1.e Students know electrically charged objects attract or repel each other.
1.g Students know electrical energy can be converted into heat, light, and motion.
1.a Students know how to design and build simple parallel and series circuits by using components such as wires, batteries, and bulbs.
The students and I are excited to continue to use the scientific method and discover together everything we can about electricity.
Have a great week and please feel free to contact me by sending a note with your child or through my diocesan email. (yschmenauer.ourladyoftheassumption.ocs@sbdiocese.org)
Please remember I do not have access to a school phone in the classroom but can check and respond to email regularly during the school day or on my own personal time at home. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
