Weekly Homework 2/19-2/25

Fri. February 19 – Thursday February 25, 2010
4th Grade Homework Sheet
Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to the Season of Lent! The students spent this week learning about the Lenten Season and attended Mass on Ash Wednesday. As we follow the road to prepare us for Easter we will be attending mass on Wednesday mornings in the weeks to come and also participate in Stations of the Cross as a class.
On Monday, the fourth grade students will have a Multiplication Challenge test with grades 2 & 3…and we want to win! So please study those multiplication tables over the weekend!
Also, thank you so much to all the parents that worked and donated to the pancake breakfast on St. Valentine’s Day. Many stated that the food was great and 4th grade appreciates the support so much. If you don’t hear it enough, “THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!”
Student grades can also be checked by visiting www.gradelink.com regularly. Please turn in any pledge money for the Jog-A-Thon to class so that it can be counted toward your 2nd trimester assessment fees. Thank you for your participation!!
Also, please check the homework folders for any tests in which students have scored below 75%. Students may make corrections on a separate sheet of paper for tests only. Since we are in the middle of 2nd trimester many students need to re-stock their supplies for the classroom: glue sticks, sharpened pencils, erasers, paper, etc.
Have a great week and please feel free to contact me by sending a note with your child or through my diocesan email: yschmenauer.ourladyoftheassumption.ocs@sbdiocese.org .

Three Days of Homework for the Holiday (Fri.Tues.Weds.)

Fri. February 12 – Thursday February 18, 2010
4th Grade Homework Sheet
Dear Students and Parents,
Happy Valentines Day! The students were able to learn the true meaning of love from a biblical perspective this week as they compared and contrasted St. Valentine’s love with Valentines Day in 2010(which often does not focus on the original martyr from the 3rd century). All students watched a video, created a Venn diagram of hearts and finally wrote a comparison/contrast paragraph to decorate the windows of the 4th grade room.
Thank you to our room mom, Myrna Cordova, for the super sweet Valentine Party today. Thank you also to all the parents that have sent in donations for our Valentine Pancake Breakfast on Sunday and those that have signed up to help. Your efforts are greatly appreciated and we thank you so much! The remaining car rosaries will be sold for $7 each at the breakfast and 100% of the profit will go to 4th grade. Thanks so much to Ms. Shea for all of the supplies and beading involved!
There is no school on Monday, February 15th due to the President’s Day holiday. Please note that there are only three days worth of homework for the folders this week. Also, please remind students to sharpen 3-5 pencils at home and come to school prepared with a daily supply of paper, glue, index cards and all the needed 4th grade supplies. It makes the day run smoother when students are prepared and not having to continually borrow supplies from others in the classroom.
Student grades can always be checked by visiting www.gradelink.com regularly.
Also, please check the homework folders for any tests in which students have scored below 75%. Students may make corrections on a separate sheet of paper for tests only.
Have a great week and please feel free to contact me by sending a note with your child or through my diocesan email: yschmenauer.ourladyoftheassumption.ocs@sbdiocese.org . Thank you for choosing OLA School and have a blessed week!

Thank you to Ms. Shea and Ms. Cordova for overseeing this project for our classroom.
Also, our Valentine Party for 4th grade will be Friday, 1pm-2pm in the classroom. Please do not address Valentine Cards but leave them blank so that we can pass them out easily. Students should only sign their names and not address the cards to specific students. We have 6 girls and 9 boys in our classroom. If you have any further questions regarding our classroom Valentine’s party please contact our room mom Myrna Cordova.
Finally, some parents have not responded back. Please return the form to school and it would be helpful to have volunteers cover the later shift from 10-12 if at all possible.(If you have lost the form please just send in a note stating what you can do) These hours do count toward your service hours. Thank you so much for all of your help and it should be a wonderful fundraiser!! Please contact the Booster Club President, Joanne Grande, if you have any further questions regarding the breakfast.

4th Grade Homework Sheet
Dear Students and Parents,
The 4th grade students enjoyed Catholic Schools Week! Thank you for encouraging them to participate in all of the activities this past week.
Thank you to all the parents that have sent in donations and service hours for the up-coming Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, February 14th after all morning masses. If you haven’t done so already please turn these in to me ASAP! Students that have turned in donations may have a free-dress next Friday, February 12th. Thanks!
Student grades can always be checked by visiting www.gradelink.com regularly. Enclosed in this homework folder is your student’s most recent results for Accelerated Reader’s star testing that determines their independent reading level. Please review this sheet and note that an average grade level would be about 4.5 (fourth grade, fifth month). Students scoring below this level need to increase their independent reading time at home with a parent. Studies show that students that improve the most in reading are students that spend the most time reading daily. We do read everyday in class, yet additional time may be needed for your student to progress to an adequate fourth grade reading level.
If your student is bringing home a lot of “daily” homework please encourage them to use their class time wisely. The students are given ample time to work on these classroom assignments but if they don’t finish then they do need to take the assignments home and finish them and return them to school the following morning. Thank you for choosing OLA School and have a blessed week!
